BEACH RIDING HOLIDAY ITINERARY

Arriving at the beautiful bush camp around midday, you’ll settle into the private tented camp perched along the Kariega river and meet your trail group. Get to know your horse with a short ride from camp, followed by a delicious evening meal around the campfire. Spend your first night at the tented camp.

After an English breakfast, you’ll be transported to the start of the trail at the mouth of the Fish River. The scenery is incredibly beautiful and the beaches mostly deserted. Enjoy a pack lunch at the rocky outcrops of the “3 sisters” before heading out on long beach canters across the surf as the tide starts pulling out. You’ll overnight in Port Alfred.

Head off on the horses to Kenton-on-Sea, with an early or late start depending on the tide. Exceptionally beautiful and practically empty beaches will be your scenery today. After 25km in the saddle, it’s time to swim across the Kariega River with your horse to enjoy a break and a picnic lunch on its banks. Afterwards,  head upriver to the tented camp in the late afternoon. Tonight’s meal is often a barbecue with snacks and sundowner drinks on the deck overlooking the river.

Post breakfast, hop on your horse and ride to the private game reserve. It’s just a short ride to the gate from the tented camp. Look out for elephant, giraffe, buffalo and many other game animals during your leisurely ride through the forests and plains of the Sibuya Game Reserve. In the late afternoon, after leaving the reserve by 3pm, you’ll head to the beach for a swim, sundowner drink and to watch the sun set on yet another stunning day in the saddle.

Non-Riding Day – Perfect timing to give your bum and legs a rest, you’re off to Addo Elephant National Park. You’ll spend the day driving throughout this incredible reserve spotting wildlife – and plenty of Elephant – from an open-air game viewer led by a knowledgeable safari guide. This park has the Big 5 and it is the best place in the world to see African Elephants. Return to the tented camp in the evening.

Riding from camp post a full English breakfast, you’ll head to Cannon Rocks. Another chance to swim your horse, this time across the Bushman’s River which is always a highlight. You’ll have a picnic lunch at the remote Diaz Cross, and then continue up the coast to the next overnight stop. The beaches are spectacular her, and along the way you’ll  stop to visit a Stone Age pottery site. Tonight’s accommodation is a beach house with a view!

The final full day will see you riding back to the tented camp, and the exciting possibility of a heart-racing gallop. In the afternoon, you’ll enjoy a boat trip up the Kariega River, often swimming and enjoying the tranquillity of the area and the dappled light peaking through the trees. Tonight is a farewell barbecue and sundowners around the fire on the deck at the tented camp.

An early breakfast is available for those wanting to do a final short beach ride in the morning, dependent upon departure times. You’ll be transported back to the airport if requested or able to continue your African adventure if your journey doesn’t end here!
